Services at Dr Joosab's KwaMashu Practice

General Medical Consultations

The KwaMashu rooms handle the full breadth of everyday health concerns — new symptoms, acute illness, ongoing complaints, and anything you are unsure about. Consultations are conducted by Dr Joosab personally and are structured to allow enough time for a thorough assessment. Not a hurried exchange.

Patients searching for a doctor near KwaMashu or a GP around KwaMashu station will find the L Section practice on Nyala Road accessible from across the KwaMashu area, as well as from Phoenix, Ntuzuma, Newlands East, and Inanda.

Common reasons for consultation include:

  • Flu, chest infections, and respiratory illness
  • Skin conditions, rashes, and allergic reactions
  • Ear, nose, and throat complaints
  • Urinary tract and bladder infections
  • Headaches, fatigue, and general malaise
  • Minor injuries and wound care
  • Sick notes and medical certificates

Chronic Disease Management

A chronic condition is not something you manage once and forget about. At the KwaMashu practice, Dr Joosab provides structured, ongoing care for patients living with long-term conditions — with regular monitoring and treatment adjustments to stay ahead of complications rather than simply reacting to them.

Conditions managed at the practice include:

  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes
  • Asthma and COPD
  • Thyroid disorders
  • High cholesterol
  • Arthritis and inflammatory joint conditions
  • Anxiety and mild to moderate depression

Where specialist input is required, referrals are arranged directly from the KwaMashu rooms.

Preventative Healthcare

Routine preventative care catches problems before they become serious. The practice emphasises regular screening and wellness checks for adults at all stages of life — blood pressure and cholesterol monitoring, diabetes risk assessments, and general health reviews. Coming in for a routine check at your KwaMashu GP once a year costs far less time and money than managing something that was allowed to progress undetected.

Medical Assessments

Formal health assessments are conducted at the KwaMashu practice for employment, licensing, and insurance requirements:

  • Pre-employment and occupational health medicals
  • Insurance and life cover assessments
  • Driver’s licence medicals (PDP and standard)
  • School entry and sports participation medicals
  • Fitness-to-work and fitness-to-return certificates

These are completed by appointment and can generally be wrapped up in a single visit.

Repeat Prescriptions

Patients on ongoing medication can manage repeat scripts at the KwaMashu practice. Each renewal includes a brief clinical review to confirm the current treatment remains appropriate and that dosages are correctly calibrated. Scripts are not issued without some level of patient review — a standard that protects long-term patient health.

Health Monitoring

Scheduled monitoring appointments are available for patients managing chronic conditions or recovering from an illness. These are shorter, focused visits to track specific markers — blood pressure, blood glucose, weight, or symptom progression — and to adjust the care plan where necessary. Regular monitoring at your KwaMashu GP is considerably more effective than waiting until something goes wrong before coming in.

Why KwaMashu Patients Choose Dr Joosab

There is no shortage of medical practices in Durban. The reasons patients consistently choose this one are fairly consistent.

Same-day availability at the Overport rooms.

When you are unwell, waiting days is not viable. The KwaMashu practice accommodates same-day bookings for urgent concerns alongside pre-scheduled appointments — so you are not forced to seek care elsewhere for something your GP should be handling.

A doctor who knows you

One of the most consistent pieces of feedback from patients at this practice is continuity. When Dr Joosab has followed your health across multiple visits, he reads changes in context rather than treating each consultation as an isolated event. That makes a meaningful difference in how quickly problems are identified and how well they are managed.

Accessible for the whole KwaMashu area.

Located at 175 Nyala Road, L Section, the practice is reachable for patients across KwaMashu, including those travelling via KwaMashu station, as well as residents of Phoenix, Ntuzuma, Newlands East, and Inanda.

All major South African medical aids accepted.

Private primary care in KwaMashu should not come with unnecessary out-of-pocket costs at every visit. The practice accepts most major South African medical aid schemes, making consistent, quality healthcare accessible for medical aid members across the area.

A professional, comfortable environment.

The KwaMashu practice is designed around patient comfort — a proper, professional primary care environment, not a rushed facility with no time for your concerns.

My daughter had chickenpox and we got to Dr Joosab just as he was leaving. The office was already closed but when I asked him to please confirm it was chickenpox he went out of his way to accommodate us. He even walked us to the Pharmacy to prescribe the medication my daughter and I could get with his discount. My wife offered to pay and he refused. Absolutely recommended him. He is a good Doctor but a better human first. Something most Dr's forget is important. Thank you Dr Joosab
